Tchimpunga chimpanzee Sanctuary Rehabilitation Center is a major wildlife sanctuary in the Republic of the Congo, near Pointe-Noire. Established by the Jane Goodall Institute in 1992, it provides care and rehabilitation for chimpanzees and other wildlife rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Many of the chimpanzees were orphaned or injured before being brought to the sanctuary.

RESCUED CHIMPANZEES & THEIR CARE
Tchimpunga chimpanzee Sanctuary focuses on the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of its chimpanzees. Caregivers provide food, veterinary treatment, enrichment, and carefully managed social groups to help the animals recover and live as naturally as possible.

FORESTED Tchimpunga chimpanzee Sanctuary ISLANDS
Some rehabilitated chimpanzees at Tchimpunga are moved to protected islands in the nearby Kouilou River, where they can live in a more natural forest environment while continuing to receive care from sanctuary staff. Current sanctuary work includes the islands of Tchibebe, Ngombe, and Tchindzoulou.
